Square Enix has revealed that Dragon Quest XI: In the Search of the Departed Time will be released for the PS4, 3DS, and Nintendo NX, Nintendo’s new home console that is currently under development. Dragon Quest XI is the first game announced for Nintendo’s new console. The release date is planned for next year.
The PS4 version of the game will be built using the Unreal Engine 4. This version will be worked on by Square Enix and Orca. The picture above shows how beautiful the game will be. Looking at the rest of what was shown at Square Enix’s live stream, it is clear this game will be massive.
The Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI will be worked on by core members of Square Enix’s staff. These members will also be working on the other version of the game as well. Toylogic will be assisting Square Enix with the 3DS version of the game. Toylogic worked on titles such as: Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Evil Within.
Each screen on the 3DS shows a different view of the game. The top screen shows more of a top down 3D look, while the bottom shows a top down 2D sprite style view. Even the cut-scenes are displayed differently on both screens. This is a cool idea because the gamer will be able to experiencing two different art styles in one game.
When Square Enix was showing off the PS4 version of the game, it failed to show the combat system of the game, which was a little disappointing. The 3DS version, on the other hand, did have it’s combat system shown, which the fans of the franchise most likely enjoyed.
