Even though the multiplayer-focused Driveclub launched essentially unplayable online, the racing game has managed to sell 2 million copies.
The game’s director, Paul Rustchynsky, shared an image via Twitter displaying a plaque celebrating the game’s 2 million copies sold.

This figure translates to copies purchased, meaning this is not simply the number of games shipped but the number of copies consumer have purchased. Additionally, this occurred before the game was available for download to PlayStation Plus users.
When asked by a Twitter user if he could share the number of Driveclub’s concurrent players the game has, Rustchynsky declined to provide a figure, but added “All I can say it’s more popular than ever right now.”
Driveclub initially launched on PS4 in October of 2014 after a nearly year long delay. The game opened to mixed critical reception upon release, with many applauding the title’s graphics and appearance, but criticizing the game’s modes and performance as it faced numerous connection issues.
A promised edition of the title for PlayStation Plus users was also delayed many months until it finally was available for download to subscribers on June 25, 2015.
