Sometimes, there are messes even Batman can’t fix.
When Batman: Arkham Knight launched last week, it was an unfortunate situation for those who attempted to play the game on PC as they encountered numerous problems, including glitches, frame rate bugs, and resolution issues.
Now, sources named to be involved closely with development of the game claim that the publisher of the title, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, knew these bugs were present in the PC version of the game “for months” before the game was to be released.
“I will say that it’s pretty rich for WB to act like they had no idea the game was in such a horrible state,” one quality assurance tester claiming to have worked on the game for years said in an interview with Kotaku. “It’s been like this for months and all the problems we see now were the exact same, unchanged, almost a year ago.”
The source goes on to say that Warner Bros. chose to ship Arkham Knight as they believed “it was good enough.”
The problems in the game are so extensive that WB has since removed the game from the Steam store all together. Main studio Rocksteady supposedly focused on developing the console versions of Arkham Knight, while the PC port was outsourced to Iron Galaxy Studios.
“Getting it to work on consoles was impossible for months,” the previous source stated. “That’s part of why the game got delayed so many times, they were totally unprepared for how hard it was on next-gen consoles.”
“We reported literally thousands of bugs that were specific to the PC version relating to the frame rate,” said the source. “All sorts of f***ed up texture issues. The Batmobile in particular has always f***ed things up on PC.”
Rocksteady currently has announced that they are working extensively to fix Arkham Knight on PC, but what do you think? Should the game have been released alongside the console version (where our review gave it an 8/10 on a PlayStation 4), or should it have been delayed until its release was proper?
