Bosses can be defeated in multiple ways in Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Deus Ex Human Revolution was a game with few flaws, but restricted, predictable boss battles were among one of the common complaints from fans and critics alike. For the most part, the game allowed players to play with a multitude of play styles, but the boss encounters were the polar opposite; instead forcing the player to approach the situation in a singular way - often by making them spray bullets at a boss regardless of whether or not they had levelled up their stealth attributes.Eidos Montreal has been keen to address this issue for the upcoming entry to the series - Mankind Divided. Eidos Montreal has been keen to address this issue for the upcoming entry to the series – Mankind Divided. Speaking to OXM UK in a recent interview, gameplay director Patrick Fortier pointed out that:
“Thematically, I think [the boss battles] were interesting, but certain players found a challenge there that wasn’t really catered to them. [In Mankind Divided] There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat and there are conversations that you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether.”
This sounds much more promising, given that players should now be able to tackle these situations however they desire, regardless of their natural or preferred play style. I wouldn’t be surprised to see players talking their way out of boss fights altogether, rather than opting to take them head on or defeat them with stealth.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2016.
