Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed thoughts that Virtual Reality will be the next communication platform in a Q and A on the site.
Zuckerberg is the CEO of Facebook, which is the parent company to Oculus, and has said that the Rift was only the beginning. With this statement it’s clear that he thinks VR will be a major factor in social media and communication in the future.
Zuckerberg wrote, “we’re working on VR because I think it’s the next major computing and communication platform after phones.
“In the future we’ll probably still carry phones in our pockets, but I think we’ll also have glasses on our faces that can help us out throughout the day and give us the ability to share our experiences with those we love in completely immersive and new ways that aren’t possible today.”
The CEO also mentioned his company’s interest in artificial intelligence. He talked about scenarios where computers could determine the content of images to better explain them to blind users as an example of what he hopes can be delivered within ten years.
