The Phantom Pain is a huge, detailed open world so is expected to require a lot of storage space. But surprisingly, it takes up less than most other open world games, including Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots which the PS Store has listed at 26.6 GB.
Konami hasn’t addressed the file size yet though some possible reasons for the game’s small size could be that all of it’s cutscenes are real time, it has little audio (Snake is a man of few words) or that it simply has really good compression.
Comparatively The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes up 50 GB, Batman: Arkham Knight requires 45 GB and Bloodborne is 25.3 GB.
The PS3 version of The Phantom Pain requires 11.7 GB.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain fultons onto PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on September 1st.
