New Battlefield coming in 2016
As franchises go these days, it should come as no surprise that EA is expected to release the newest entry in their Battlefield series in 2016.
As franchises go these days, it should come as no surprise that EA is expected to release the newest entry in their Battlefield series in 2016.
In a recent investor call going over EA’s Q1 FY16 financial results, Blake Jorgenson, chief financial officer at EA, was asked what the key future titles were for the company in which he let the cat out of the bag.
“What we’ve said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles.” He continued, “This year it’s Star Wars: Battlefront. Next year, it’s another Battlefield title.”
Two years after its launch, Battlefield 4 is still receiving patches, updates and new maps including its upcoming “summer patch” which will include the Graveyard Shift night map. “Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, in October 2014.
“As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it’s clear that players want to experience the games we’re delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles.”
EA has been teasing that the next entry in the series will be a “fun, new Battlefield” and “That [it] will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game”, unlike the new Battlefield Hardline game recently released.
