Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has said he is interested in bringing the Brothers in Arms franchise back from the dead, if they can find a partner to do it with.In an interview with IGN, Pitchford said that he felt "we have unfinished business there with both the fiction and the history and I'd like to get into that." Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has said he is interested in bringing the Brothers in Arms franchise back from the dead, if they can find a partner to do it with.
In an interview with IGN, Pitchford said that he felt “we have unfinished business there with both the fiction and the history and I’d like to get into that.” The CEO also said that “the next Brothers in Arms game has to be authentic,” and hinted that Gearbox may have already been working on it.
Pitchford stated that Gearbox does have plans to make another addition to the Brothers in Arms franchise, but is only in talks at the moment. The game has no publisher nor the right partners to create the game in Pitchford’s vision. By his own admission, he feels that “it’s not something I feel I could completely do alone,” citing the management of energy and monetary resources as an issue.
The last we heard of Brothers in Arms was the abandonment of the trademark for Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 by Ubisoft back in 2012. This left us believing that the IP had been canned, and then Gearbox later went on to announced what was left would be re-imagined into a brand new IP.
This isn’t the first time Gearbox staff have said they would like to return to Brothers in Arms. Creative Champion Mikey Neumann had said back in March this year he also wanted to “go back to Brothers in Arms.” So the interest is certainly there, it’s just finding the necessary people to move the ideas forward from the “incubation phase” Pitchford says the game is currently in.
If this project gets picked up, Gearbox will also be working on Borderlands 3, Battleborn and the recently-teased next Duke Nukem game, so there’s certainly lots to look forward to from the Texas-based studio
