The internet has been taken by storm as Sega posted a trailer to their Sonic The Hedgehog channel titled “Sonic Generations – Shia LaBeouf DLC (Spoilers!)”
The trailer(shown above) has the ending to Sonic Generations with added Shia Labeouf. We see Sonic and classic Sonic laying down in defeat while their friends spur them to keep fighting. Amongst the hopeful chanting and words of courage come “DO IT!” and “NO, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!”
Sonic Generations was one of the more critically acclaimed Sonic games in the past few years, a refreshing change for Sega, so it’s only natural they’d attract good publicity to one of their better games.
In an interview with Famitsu and translated by Siliconera, CEO Hajime Satomi said “Sega in the 90s was known for its brand, but after that, we’ve lost trust, and we’re left with nothing but reputation … We’d like to win back the trust and become a brand once again,” and added “I believe that if we can’t maintain quality, it would be better to not release anything at all.”
This newfound perspective may be a turning point for Sega, a company that has been famous for making less than sensible decisions for their Sonic franchise. What do you think about their new advertising style? I’ll admit, anything with Shia Labeouf has got me glued to the screen.
