Shenmue III creator, Yu Suzuki, has high hopes for the game, but has said he won’t be disappointed if the $10 million goal on the Kickstarter page isn’t hit, he’ll settle for $2 million.
At E3 this year Sony announced the Kickstarter page for Shenmue III, generating a lot of hype. More recently Suzuki took to Twitter in a questions and answers session, and addressed the topic of funding for the game.
When responding to the question of if he’d be sad if the project fell short of the goal Suzuki responded, “No I won’t be. I am grateful that there’s another chance for a new Shenmue. I will make what I can within the budget from your money.”
Suzuki has said that he would need the full $10 million in order to make a “true” open world for the game.
At this time the game has exceeded $4.4 million and is still growing, with ten days left to go we hope it’ll get to the $5 million milestone.
Despite the game being announced on Sony’s stage at E3 they will receive no money from the Kickstarter, Suzuki has confirmed. They will instead assist in the production, publication and marketing of the game.
Shenmue III is set for release on PlayStation 4 and PC, the dates are unknown at this time.
