Capcom announced today that they are stopping the Street Fighter 5 beta indefinitely until they can fix the servers. On a post on the Capcom website, Associate Producer Peter Rosas stated: “Capcom offers its sincerest apologies to everyone who participated in this first beta test. While the purpose of a beta is to work out these type of issues, it was very clear that the issues we faced were more severe than we were prepared for.”
Capcom stated that there will be three more beta tests in the future, and that those who preordered the game and got access to this beta will still have access to the next test. Capcom is also planning on granting players who managed to get into the Street Fighter 5 beta some sort of incentive for participating in the test. The specifics for this incentive have not been revealed.
The Street Fighter 5 beta began last week on July 23rd. Players soon started reporting problems, forcing Capcom to do maintenance on the servers several times. Yesterday, Capcom took down the servers for maintenance. The studio stated that it would extend the beta to make up for the server troubles, though it seems the problem proved too much for Capcom to fix in a short time.
Street Fighter 5 will release on PlayStation 4 and PC next year.
