Merely days ago, the Dota 2 blog put up a post to celebrate the incoming major tournament as well as revealing some new changes to the way the tournament this year will run. Apart from the scheduling changes, there’s more information concerning how the prize money will be distributed amongst the competitors.
According to the main page the current prize pool of $16,930, 513 (as of this article being published) will be distributed to all 16 teams that are competing during The International. In prior years, only the top 4 teams would receive money from the prize pool. This year, the corresponding ranked winners receive the following amount:
- 1st place: $6,094,985
- 2nd place: $2,624,230
- 3rd place: $2,031,662
- 4th place: $1,439,094
- 5th place: $1,100,483
- 6th place: $1,100,483
- 7th place: $761,873
- 8th place: $761,873
- 9th place: $203,166
- 10th place: $203,166
- 11th place: $203,166
- 12th place: $203,166
- 13th place: $50,792
- 14th place: $50,792
- 15th place: $50,792
- 16th place: $50,792
Compare this to last year’s TI4 where the top 3 teams received over a million in prize winnings, this year, Valve is rewarding the successful participants that reached the grand stage and offers a generous amount to every team. The more they succeed, the higher the amount they will receive; hopefully placing at least above 6th place and earning more than a million for their team!
