Having teased the walkthrough earlier this month, The Creative Assembly released the first in-engine, extended look at the gameplay of the next entry in the long running Total War series. Working in partnership with Games Workshop, Total War: Warhammer is set in the Warhammer fantasy table-top game universe, the fantasy sister game to Dawn of War’s inspiration Warhammer 40k.

While admittedly scripted and not showing any of the actual mechanics of controlling the armies, the trailer showcases The Battle of Blackfire Pass, a personal quest battle of one of the game’s legendary heroes, Emperor Karl Franz. Placing the emperor’s forces against Grimgor Ironhide’s orc horde, the battle highlights the variety of units and brutal battle animations players can hope to find in game. We even get to see some of the high level magic abilities, truly awe-inspiring attacks that wreak havoc on your opponents army.
Coming to PC, there is no release date yet for the game. But if this trailer is any indication, however long the wait is, it will likely be worth it. What do you think of the trailer? Are you rooting for the dirty greenskins or the righteous empire? Let us know in the comments.
