Should the player choose the “Birthright” version of the game, they ally with Hoshido. The Hoshido route is more akin to a traditional fire emblem game – you defend your kingdom from conquest. The “Conquest” version puts the player in the opposite position, having you ally with Nohr. Additionally, a third route, in which the player chooses neither kingdom, is planned for release as DLC.
Fire Emblem Fates has already been out for several weeks in Japan. The games have already outsold Fire Emblem Awakening, with “Conquest” edging out “Birthright.”
