Next week on Thursday August 6th Blizzard will be unveiling the next expansion for World of Warcraft live at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Blizzard will be taking to the stage for their briefing at the event and we’re going to find out where we’re going in terms of content in the game. The event will be streamed live for all to see from 4pm GMT/9am PDT/12pm EDT. Warcraft fans will also get the chance to see a special developer chat on the morning of August 9th wherein Blizzard developers will get the chance to discuss the expansion in more depth.
This will be the sixth expansion in the World of Warcraft universe but it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, as Blizzard said in 2013 that the future would see more modestly sized expansions coming more often and that this was key to making Warcarft remain relevant. Whilst World of Warcraft still maintains its crown as the most successful subscription based mmo on the market its overall subscriber numbers have fluctuated over the last few years causing many skeptics to assume the worst for Blizzard’s flagship title. With many players choosing to put their subscription on hold while they wait for more content the move to a more “little and often” approach may benefit the game in the long run by keeping players invested and subscribed for more of the year. And it may put the minds of the skeptics at ease as well.
We’ll be tuned in live to watch the presentation so if you can’t make it to the live show then be sure to check back here for the latest news on what we’re going to be seeing in the World of Warcraft in the future.
