A new demolition derby-styled entry in the racing series known as FlatOut is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Publisher Strategy First announced this on Wednesday. The game, which is due to be released in 2016, is being developed by Kylotonn Entertainment, the studio behind Truck Racer and Motorcycle Club.
Strategy First said it received “numerous” offers from “great” developers across the world, but decided to partner with Kylotonn because it believes the team has the necessary experience to revive the franchise with a game “that fans have been waiting for.”
The first FlatOut game was released in 2004 for Xbox and PC, was developed by BugBear Entertainment. They also developed the 2006 FlatOut 2, and 2007 FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage. They also made the PSP game, FlatOut Head On. The Wii and FlatOut 3 were made by separate companies, however.
The publisher says that this new installment is the “most ambitious title in the franchise’s history.” As well as saying that, “FlatOut is our most important franchise,” Strategy First director Emanuel Wall said in a statement. “There is a strong vocal community that have numerous constructive ideas and suggestions on what they would like to experience in an all new FlatOut.”
