Xbox responds to PS4's Europe sales
After the recent report of PlayStation 4’s dominance in the European console market, Microsoft’s Xbox head, Phil Spencer, explained the company’s view on the Xbox One’s performance in Europe. In the latest issue of Edge, Spencer said, “We need to do better in Europe. When I look globally, mainland Europe is definitely an area we want to focus on.”Sony reported a market share throughout Europe ranging from 70 to 90 percent country by country. Spencer acknowledged this market share disparity saying, “Sony does a really good job in those markets, and they have a long history--long before we were in this business--and they’ve earned the success that they get in those regions. I watch what they do, because they do a lot of good things, and I want to make sure that we’re being smart about succeeding.”

Spencer pointed to the Xbox One’s home markets to show the company’s successes. In Latin America, the Xbox One “does really well” and in the United States, we have seen the monthly sales lead go back and forth between the Microsoft and Sony consoles, though the cumulative lead still remains in favor of the PlayStation 4.
Spencer finished by explaining that he believes the content forthcoming to the Xbox One will be a major factor in its future success, “Content-wise, though, I’m excited about this Forza, I’m excited about Tomb Raider, I’m excited about the new Rare game, Sea Of Thieves and I think we can do more artful games that I have found resonate more. That’s definitely a focus for us.”
