Xfinity Games streaming service from EA and ComCast team up

Xfinity Games seems to prove all rumors of an EA and ComCast team up. ComCast launched the service on Tuesday, their new game platform that's "powered by EA."Despite past failures like OnLive, Xfinity Games is a subscription-based service that grants access to EA games for users via an Xfinity set-top box, akin to Playstation Now. Xfinity Games seems to prove all rumors of an EA and ComCast team up. ComCast launched the service on Tuesday, their new game platform that’s “powered by EA.”

Despite past failures like OnLive, Xfinity Games is a subscription-based service that grants access to EA games for users via an Xfinity set-top box, akin to Playstation Now. Happily, there’s no need for further peripherals or additional purchases should you choose to sign up, as your controller can be a smartphone or tablet.

Although no pricing has been officially decided just yet, titles are free during beta (which is right now). Other titles include Zuma’s Revenge, PGA Tour, NBA Jam and FIFA Soccer 13 – A full list can be found on the Xfinity website here. Be warned though, you won’t be able to play online multiplayer on any of these titles, also noting that Xfinity is streaming mobile games, not console releases.

You can find a short video showing how the platform works below, and more detailed instructions can be found on the Xfinity website.

If you’re an existing Comcast subscriber, you can simply opt-in to the free beta to try out the service for yourself by heading to the Apps section of your dashboard and setting it up from there with some simple on-screen instructions.

What do you think of Xfinity? Does it look like a success, or are we staring down the barrel of another Ouya debacle?
