The upcoming Star Wars Battlefront will feature a special bit of DLC that takes place years before the upcoming movie, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Today, developer DICE released concept art for the DLC, giving us a glimpse at what to expect.
Star Wars Battlefront’s Battle of Jakku is set 29 years before the events of The Force Awakens. The battle takes place after the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor. Gamers will play through the events that created the scene shown in the movie’s trailer.
The first image shows a Star Destroyer crashed into the sand on the planet. The Imperial troops are seen leaving the downed ship, battling Rebel forces. DICE concept artist Anton Grandert states on the game’s website: “There’s a David and Goliath theme to this. This epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces.”
The second image shows a downed X-wing, with Imperial forces taking on Rebel soldiers. “We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight,” says Grandert.
Star Wars Battlefront releases on November 17th. The game will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Battle of Jakku DLC will release on December 1st for free for those who preorder the game. It will release on December 8th for everyone else. The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th.
