I don’t care how old you are, you will never be too old for a trip to Disney Land. But if you’re over 20, don’t go alone, ok?
Disney CEO Bob Iger came onto the stage at the D23 Expo with the long awaited announcement that there are Star Wars themed ‘lands’ coming to their marquee parks at Anaheim, California and Orlando, Florida.
Iger described Disney’s plans as ‘ambitious’ and I’d like to throw my own adjective of ‘understatement’ in here now, because they’re talking 14 acres of land that will transport ‘guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port, and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.’
These Star Wars lands are going to be the ‘largest single-themed land expansions ever’ for Disney.
Each of the Star Wars Land’s will have two ‘signature attractions’, the first of which will be a ride that lets you pilot the Millennium Falcon on a secret mission – I mean, who hasn’t wanted to do that for the last forty years? – and the other will be an ‘epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climatic battle.’
Put down your Stormtrooper outfits and Darth Vader masks down for the moment, though, as this is just the concept art and verbal confirmation. It’ll be a while before you see any of this concept art in a Disney Park.
(It’s still ridiculously cool, so you can nerd out a little.)
