Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has expectedly robust integrated eSports features, and developers Treyarch are working on some significant improvements to them. The studio announced a new multiplayer feature called the ‘Ban & Protect System’. It’s up on competitive and private matches, and it works by letting each player to pick an item to vote on to ‘ban’ or ‘protect’ before each match.
These items include Black Ops 3’s items, types of perks and other game affecting features. During a game, players banned gunsights, grenades, and even guns themselves. They picked strategically, if they knew an opposing player relied on a certain gun, the other team banned it for an advantage. If you protect an item, then you will still be able to use it despite the enemy team banning it for everyone else.
In competitive games there’s another system in place called ‘Specialist Draft’. This introduces a restriction on the number of Specialist abilities in a single match. If one player chooses a specific ability, he or she is the only one who gets to use that skill on his or her team during the match.
Both Specialist Draft and the Ban and Protect System are designed to introduce balance into competitive games, while also making the game fair for everyone. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches November 6th on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 & PC.
