Destiny: The Taken King abandon’s current level system
Recently it was announced that in Destiny’s new DLC, The Taken King, the leveling system will be completely overhauled. If you are one of the millions of users to have played Bungie and Activision’s hit game, Destiny, you probably know all about the Light Level leveling system. If you’re oblivious to Destiny here’s how it works; Players need to gain experience to reach level 20, after hitting this point it depends on the amount of light in the armor you are wearing to reach higher levels. The current max level is 34 and players either need armor from Prison of Elders, Trials of Osiris, an exotic, or any Legendary that has been raised with an Etheric Light to hit this level.

With the New DLC it will be back to grinding out experience to hit the new max level, of, wait for it, 40! While many pieces can get you to the max level players will want to grind it out to find the best gear in order to achieve higher attack and defense. Creative director Luke Smith recently said, “The conflation of gear and character level led to this place where your identity was determined by things outside of your control. We don’t want to do that”.
It was also stated that loot drops will closer resemble the level of player’s characters and that players will receive drops that they already own much less frequently. Players may be unhappy to find out that their current legendary gear will not be upgradable.
Destiny: The Taken King will be released on September 15th, 2015. Players will also notice that their Ghost will no longer be voiced by Peter Dinklage. Dinklage’s voice is being replaced by Nolan North, who will be replacing the entirety of Dinklage’s lines. Check out Destiny: The Taken King trailer below:
