Say goodbye to the power of your Year One legendary weapons when Bungie moves Destiny into Year Two with The Taken King. As reported by Game Informer, Destiny’s first year legendary weapons won’t be upgradable in the latest expansion. They’ll still be powerful, but not the most powerful weapons in the game.
The Destiny community originally voiced frustration with the lack of ability to upgrade their legendary weapons in the first expansion pack, The Dark Below. Bungie heard the criticisms and made upgrading possible in the second expansion pack, House of Wolves, with the system of “ascending” or upgrading older legendary weapons through the process of earning Etheric Light.
For The Taken King, Bungie has added a huge amount of new weapons, gear, and playable content in an effort to encourage players to earn the new arsenal instead of relying on the year-old collection of gear.
“I definitely feel like some of our players are ready to play with some new toys,” says creative director Luke Smith. “And we’ve built a whole bunch of new toys. There are definitely some weapons that you are going to find better versions of – there’s going to be something that replaces that sniper rifle that you love.”
Since the average Destiny player has logged more than 100 hours of game time over the past year, how do you feel that your weapons won’t be as powerful in the latest expansion?
Destiny: The Taken King will be released September 15th on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360.
