Originally a successful Kickstarter title that followed upon the massive love for western RPGs, the wildly successful Divinity: Original Sin has now prompted the studio, Larian Studios to get cracking on their sequel game. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is set to have another Kickstarter campaign to help fund it in its entirety much like its predecessor. In the blog post on the studio’s official site, Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios goes into detail on the thought process about the sequel title and about his visions for it.
Vincke mentions right off the bat that the Kickstarter campaign will be unveiled on the 26th of August. For this reason, he chose to not talk too much about the features planned for the title as well as the finer details concerning the campaigns. He does however mention that the reason for returning to Kickstarter is to keep the doorways open between the studio and the fanbase that they are trying to connect to. That, it was only due to the frenzied feedback and the positive reception by the people who invested their support, money and time into the project made it as successful as it was.
Vincke also talks about how Original Sin 2 will be building up from the previous game in terms of the core mechanics in the game as that has already been established. Instead, due to this benefit, he claims the studio will be able to focus entirely on the gameplay and polishing it to the nth degree in order really draw in the player and engage with them.
The CEO closes up the post talking about the obvious risk of failing the campaign in which he and the rest of the team will have to go back to the drawing board and reconsider their plans. He does convey his confidence that this game will get “very close to the RPG that will dwarf them all!”. He mentions that there will be a demo to show Pax Prime attendees that he hopes will make anybody who understands the implications of what transpires in the demo to be just as excited as he is for the coming of this game.
PAX Prime will be running between the 28th to the 31st of August. The campaign for the Kickstarter will be available starting the 26th of August.
