Unsurprisingly for a game reportedly over 400 hours long, Fallout 4 will allow you to keep playing after completing the main story.
“To our fans who’ve asked: Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main story is over and there is no level cap,” tweeted Bethesda. “You can keep playing and leveling.”
This might seem like an obvious feature, but it wasn’t present in either Obsidian-developed Fallout: New Vegas, or the last Bethesda developed Fallout game, Fallout 3.
(SPOILERS) In Fallout 3’s ending, you potentially ended up dying, and whether you or another character died, your journey came to an end, even if you wanted to continue exploring the wasteland or completing quests post game. It wasn’t until the release of the the game’s third DLC, Broken Steel, that players could continue past the end of the main story (and advance beyond the main game’s level cap of 20).
You won’t have to wait for patches or DLC, or even re-load a pre-ending save (like in New Vegas), in Fallout 4, Bethesda have thankfully had the foresight to address this issue, a feature essential for game of this size and scope.
Fallout 4 finally emerges from Vault 111 on November 10th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
