Making an open-world game isn’t easy, and Square Enix is looking to help Final Fantasy XV become all it can be by borrowing tech from another upcoming Square game, Just Cause 3.
In a statement, Just Cause 3 developers Avalanche confirmed that the two teams are actively discussing how to utilise Just Cause tech to assist in work on Final Fantasy XV. Although he couldn’t provided any specifics, Chief Creative Officer Cristofer Sundberg announced that Avalanche’s experience with open worlds might be of use to the Final Fantasy team.

Sundberg wrote:
I can confirm that we are in talks with the Final Fantasy XV team over a collaboration, like Tabata said in his interview, these talks are in the early stages so we are not able to give much more detail at this point, but we’re excited about the opportunity. Avalanche Studios has become synonymous with huge open worlds. Like most gamers, we are also fans of the Final Fantasy series. If there is a way that our technical expertise and extensive experience of open-world game design can be of some help to the Final Fantasy XV team, then we’re certainly open to that. I look forward to further discussions with them.
Last week Tabata revealed that the Final Fantasy XV team was seeking to collaborate with Avalanche and utilise their tech. He noted the vertical scale of the Just Cause games, and stated he would like Final Fantasy XV to have a similar level or verticality. He explained:
When I saw what the guys at Avalanche Studios were doing with Just Cause 3, what really impressed me was how they have that vertical element to their games and the technology they use to achieve that kind of thing.
Final Fantasy XV has been slated for it’s announced 2016 release on PlayStation 4 & Xbox One.
