The Grand Theft Auto series has exceeded 220 million worldwide sales. A report from Take-Two Interactive has revealed that GTA V has shipped over 54 million copies, pushing the total number for the series above 220 million.
In this context “shipped” refers to the number of units that have been sold to retailers for public distribution, and not the number of copies that have been purchased by people, but this is still a highly impressive number.
To date the only franchises to surpass this are the Mario series with 509.4 million in sales, and the Pokemon series with 270.8 million.
Grand Theft Auto V sales are still expected to grow strong with the release of the Rockstar Editor to the PS4 and Xbox One audiences, a previously PC exclusive feature.
Take-Two have also not offered any comment as to the status of story based DLC for the game, a highly requested feature from the community.
