Blizzard’s Hearthstone released in early 2014. In a recent interview, the company explained that they want to be able to support the game for another 10-20 years.
In an interview with GameSpot, Blizzard Entertainment executive producer Hamilton Chu says that the developer wants to support Hearthstone for the next 10-20 years. He states: “We want Hearthstone to be around for ten to 20 years. That’s what Blizzard does.”
Chu does state, however, that adding more card to the game could make it harder for new players later on. “So, if we’re here for a long time, that means we’ll need to add more cards. But this problem of adding more cards is going to make it harder and harder for new players.”
Chu states that Blizzard does not have a solution, though it is possible that the developer may delete some cards over time. “I mean, I don’t know. This is something we’re going to have to figure out how to manage and how to address in the long term. There’s no easy answer.”
The idea of Hearthstone coming to console was also addressed: “But seriously, we hear this a lot. We’re console players too. So definitely, we love to get Hearthstone out to more players and letting them play however they want. You want to play on the couch in front of a big TV, and I totally get that. It’s definitely something we think about.”
“I mean, it’s a lot of hard work. To make Hearthstone feel as good on phone as it did on PC and tablet took awhile. So for us, it would be no less important to nail the experience on console than any other platform. So if we did it, we’d want to take our time to do it right.”
Hearthstone is currently available on PC, iOS, and Android devices. Grand Tournament, the title’s next expansion, will release on August 24th.
