Satoru Iwata’s death back in July has reportedly not effected the partnership between developer DeNA and Nintendo to move forward. Iwata, who is known for saving Nintendo, helped move the company towards new platforms; including Nintendo Mobile.
DeNA has been developing first, second, and third party games since 2006 for the mobile platform. Nintendo and DeNA’s partnership comes as little surprise after how big the smartphone market has become, with Nintendo marketing executive Scott Moffitt explaining that to be a core reason for moving towards the smartphone market.
The games released for Nintendo Mobile will not be ports of console games, instead they will be coming up with new games, specifically designed for the smartphone. The first game for Nintendo Mobile is supposed to be released by the end of the year, with five launching by March 2017.
