The PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console this month. The NPD Group revealed this information from their monthly game hardware sales. Xbox One was leading in second place. The demand for these consoles continue to grow, and the demand is being met. This suggests that more gamers are being born, and have the need to play some games.
The PlayStation 4 bundles most likely helped the system appeal to gamers. Batman: The Arkham Knight bundle helped the PS4’s sales by being the besting-selling game of June 2015. Batman: The Arkham Knight was also the top selling game of July 2015, including the console bundles sales. There was also a limited edition Batman bundle that further helped the PS4 sales.
Warner Bros. has not only done well because of their Batman game, but also because of their Lego: Jurassic World. Including the Batman bundle sales, Lego: Jurassic World was second best-selling game in July. Both of these titles were released in June.
The upcoming Destiny: The Taken PS4 bundle will most likely sell more PS4 consoles. The bundle will come out next month on September 15th. If the Metal Gear Solid V PS4 bundle ever comes to the United States, even more PS4 consoles would be sold. Just look at how awesome both the PS4s looks.
The PlayStation 4 has been leading in sales since May, and the Xbox One has been a close second. A Sony spokesman stated in interview with GamesBeat, “We are truly humbled by the success of the PS4, and we would like to thank gamers for making it the top-selling console and No. 1 in software sales in the United States in July.” Microsoft’s console managed to see a 44 percent since last year. Despite placing second in sales, the Xbox One’s sales are doing fine.
Mike Nichols, Microsoft’s corporate Vice President, believes that their console will pick up more momentum. After attending China Joy in Shanghai and Gamescom in Germany, Mike feels that the Xbox One’s line up of upcoming titles will entice more consumers to buy their consoles. The Xbox One’s reverse compatibility to play Xbox 360 games is a very appealing feature to have. It is likely this feature will also draw more people to purchase the console. Because of Windows 10’s launch, Xbox One owners will be able to stream their games to their Windows 10 PCs and laptops.
Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One have sold better than their predecessors. In the first 21 months, current-generation systems have sold better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 in their first 21 months. This shows how Sony and Microsoft learned from the PS3 and Xbox 360 launches, and improved upon them with the PS4 and Xbox One’s launches.
According to VentureBeat.com, “NPD analyst Liam Callahan notes that the nearly $13 billion console-gaming industry continues to thrive even as people continue to spend a similar amount on software.” This shows how much money is exchanged for games and the consoles to run them. The gaming industry has grown large, and will continue to do so.
