After a couple of weeks of teasing the Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom has finally come out and officially announced that it will indeed be in development. The leading producer for the title will be Yoshiaki ‘H’ Hirabayashi who has been a long time producer for the Resident Evil, Sengoku Basara and Devil May Cry series. Hirabayashi’s latest title he has worked on is the Resident Evil HD remaster that came out this year which received fairly positive reviews.
The Capcom R&D Division 1 team will be working on the Resident Evil 2 remake. It will take a fair while until anything substantial in terms of footage or updates on the game can be shown. Hirabayashi however has made it clear that just like how he reached out to the fans through social media in order to see how high the interest is for the Resident Evil 2 remake, he will be using these platforms in order to update fans on developments during the production.
There is no word on whether or not Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games will come back to lend a hand as the director of the original 1998 released Resident Evil 2. With a remake however, it will more likely be the case that he won’t be, especially since he has several other games in the works with Platinum Games to deal with.
Resident Evil 2 was a legendary game and critically acclaimed as the best of the franchise. Taking a huge step up from the first game, its music, level design and graphics at that time made the world inherently sinister atmospherically. Even touting that this game and Silent Hill 2 were the pinnacle of survival horror back in the day. It is no wonder that when Capcom teased the remake on Facebook, the fans went wild and tears were shed.
No word on platform availability or a release date, but it’s in the works and that’s good enough me!
