Rocket League is confirmed to be in development for other systems, according to Vice President of Psyonix marketing Jeremy Dunham.
In an interview with GameZone (and subsequent statement to GameStop), Dunham stated that the team have absolutely been looking to bring their smash hit to other console. Dunham explained “now that the game is doing as well as it’s doing and people really want to see [it on different systems], we’ve focused on [porting the game].”
Dunham cited the main reason Rocket League had a limited release was due to team size. “The number one reason we’re only on PlayStation and PC is because the team is small.” “For the majority of the development, there were only 8 to 12 people working on Rocket League, and we’ve only very recently – in the last few weeks – added a couple of people to that count,” he said. He explained that Psyonix “wanted to make sure it was very good, very polished, that everybody liked it, and the only way we could ensure that was to focus on two platforms.”
Following the boom the game has seen to peaking at 100,000 concurrent players and over 5 million downloads, Dunham and Psyonix are much more comfortable. “We’re now in a position that we can expand our team. We are absolutely, 100 percent going to other platforms.”
Although there are no formal announcements on which platforms the game is headed to, Dunham later confirmed in a statement to GameSpot that there will be an “official announcement of what platforms those are (and when) a little further down the line.”
