Scalebound‘s gameplay was revealed at Gamescom. This Xbox One exclusive is worked on by Platinum Games, which created great games such as The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, and more.
When I first watch the gameplay, I was worried the game would be as boring as Drakengard 3. Drakengard 3 is similar because you play a humanoid character that teams up with her dragon. Since the gameplay was stale and repetitive, I worried the same might be true for Scalebound. After watching the gameplay, I have some hope for this game.
The gameplay of Scalebound looks fun and interesting. The players play as Drew, the protagonist, who teams up with his dragon to take down his foes. The dragon acts as Drew’s partner and mount. Drew can target an enemy or object with his target reticle, and command his dragon to attack it.
Drew can slice into his enemies with his sword, or use his bow to damage them from a distance. I believe this was a wise decision by Platinum Games, so the player can be useful from a distance. Drew can throw mines, and attach them onto giant creatures. Once attached, Drew can shoot an explosive arrow to detonate the mine.
The protagonist seems to be a hybrid of both dragon and human. He can also transform into his dragon form, which looks like he is covered in scaly armor.
Scalebound gave the audience a little taste of its soundtrack when the fighting began, and it sounds pretty good.
Platinum Games also announced Scalebound will have 4 player co-op, but they didn’t go into detail about it.
