Yesterday at Gamescom, Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix, referred to Tomb Raider as a “trilogy” which may have been a bit untimely as a sequel to the soon-to-be-released sequel has not even been announced yet.
In a recently released statement, Square Enix chimed in. “We’re always thinking about the future of the franchise, but right now we’re focused on the upcoming release of Rise of the Tomb Raider,” they said.
It goes without saying, a game franchise that has been around as long as Tomb Raider and that has been met with such positive reception will continue to get subsequent sequels until the developers are done telling their story. How long that story turns out to be has yet to be seen.
I, for one, will be happy to continue it.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive scheduled for release on November 10th of this year. The PC version will come “early 2016” while console exclusivity will last an entire year pushing the PS4 version out to “Holiday 2016”.
