Gamespot got the opportunity to talk with CD Projekt Red about The Witcher 3’s modding tools that are on the way.
Although Witcher 3 has had some mods slowly released for it since may, the modding tools coming out from CD Projekt Red look like it’ll make the experience even more insane.
CD Projekt Red is looking to help extend the life of the game, as well as support those who are eager to create mods. CD Projekt Red explained that ‘the modding tools we are releasing are not a world editor. They’re meant for people who are somewhat experienced with modding software and are designed to make creating mods easier’
The process behind modding is more complex when the company hasn’t opened it up for potential modding, with the developers allowing you to view the code for The Witcher 3, you’ll be able to skin and modify whatever you want with ease. So long as you know what you’re doing, that is.
CD Projekt Red is trying to limit expectations that are put onto the modding community, although they have openly admitted to taking influences from mods for The Witcher 2 and implementing them into The Witcher 3. Nexus Mods, which is a modding community, is currently very popular for The Witcher 3 mods. With the opening of the source code, CD Projekt Red has said something very interesting: they are not going to try and partition the PC crowd. That is, they are currently trying to work on bringing mods to the console.
We are thinking about it but it’s a way more complex process to do this on consoles so we can’t give you any details now. It’s really important for us not to partition The Witcher community and allow access to mods to console gamers, too. We’re considering various approaches to solve this and started initial talks with first-parties about this. We can’t make any hard promises yet, but you can be sure that we’re looking into it.
