“Modkit” was released for the Witcher 3 on Friday, allowing players to make changes to various parts of the game, but complaints began quickly after some claimed the mod tools made available pale in comparison to the ones available for previous titles. Many were expecting an updated version of “REDkit” available for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
During an interview in 2014, CD Projekt Red was “looking to release the REDkit sometime after [The Witcher 3] launches for the modding community,” according to CEO Marcin Iwinski.
Yet when the Modkit for The Witcher 3 was announced earlier this week, CD Projekt Red said, “the modding tools we are releasing are not an editor. They’re meant for people who are somewhat experienced with modding software and are designed to make creating mods easier.”
CD Projekt Red community manager Marcin Momot addressed the situation on Twitter claiming that the developer has no current plants to release any form of REDkit for The Witcher 3, saying “This is the mod support for the Wild Hunt. At this moment we are not planning to release anything else.”
What’s your take? Does CD Projekt Red owe you better mod tools after what they said in 2014?
