Video game retailer giant GameStop recently reported its earnings for the quarter which ended on August 1, revealing a profit that was largely helped by blockbuster titles like Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight.
Profit for the quarter was $33.1 million, an increase of 34.6% compared to last year. Sales for new hardware and software fell with only a marginal sales increase of 0.5% for its pre-owned merchandise, a key player in GameStop’s money making ability. Digital sales increased 11.1% to $199.1 million thanks to “strong sales” of Witcher 3 and the Arkham Knight DLC.
Thanks to the retailer’s recent acquisition of ThinkGeek, the biggest area of growth was its “Other” category. This was boosted due to sales of collectibles through the popular, nerd culture-based website.
