A major update will be put into effect on September 8th that all players will have to install to continue playing Destiny, regardless if they purchased or plan on purchasing The Taken King. Bungie suggests that last-gen players upgrade their hard drive or upgrade their console. Destiny supports data transfers if players decide to upgrade their console, so players can keep their progress and gear. Cross family transfers are not supported, such as Xbox 360 to PS4 or PS3 to Xbox One.
Destiny: The Taken King becomes available on September 15, 2015 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
