Naughty Dog themselves might have just accidentally revealed the existence of The Last of Us 2, during a livestream that the developer undertook yesterday to show off the upcoming Uncharted Collection.
During the stream, Naughty Dog writer Josh Scherr makes a candid reference to The Last of Us, but accidentaly refers to it as “the first Last of Us.” The section in full reads: “All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric (Monacelli), here, and (on) the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I just say the first The Last of Us?”
Many people have obviously jumped to the conclusion that Scherr made a reference to an unannounced sequel to The Last of Us. However this may not be the case, as the man behind Joel, Troy Baker, recently shot down speculation of a sequel to The Last of Us when fellow voice actor Nolan North appeared to accidentally reveal its existence.
In previous news relating to this topic, Naughty Dog writer and creative director Neil Druckmann stated that there was a “50/50” chance of a sequel to The Last of Us happening, and that there could possibly be some big changes, such as Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (Ellie) not returning to the series.
While Naughty Dog has denied the existence of The Last of Us 2, they haven’t exactly dispelled speculation about a sequel. They recently stated that “We have brainstormed sequel ideas for The Last of Us 2”, but that “We’re 110% in Uncharted 4 territory right now.”
