Activision announced that older generation hardware, the PS3 and Xbox 360, won’t have the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 campaign mode when the game releases in November. Multiplayer and Zombies modes will still be featured in the previous generation versions of Black Ops 3.
Activision also said that features built to leverage next generation hardware, like the Weapons Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools, won’t be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a truly next-generation experience designed from day one to harness the full potential of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC,” Activision said in their statement, “The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.”
So what can players expect to see in their copies of Black Ops 3 for the Xbox 360 and PS3? The multiplayer and Zombies modes. The multiplayer mode will include “the new momentum-based, chain-movement system, as well as the all-new Specialist class of 9 Black Ops soldiers, which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat.” The Zombies mode will include the all-new “Shadows of Evil” mode which will feature a “1940’s film-noir inspired adventure that takes the signature Black Ops Zombies gameplay to a new level.”
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Black Ops 3 will retail for $50 instead of $60 and will include a free digital copy of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Activision revealed that developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology are working on the port of Black Ops 3 for the previous generation consoles, not the main developer Treyarch. This signals a shift in focus that all developers are going through right now with the transition to the next generation of hardware. As developers work towards maxing out the potential of the Xbox One and the PS4, owners of last generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3 can expect to see their previous generation hardware hit more and more game development limitations.
With the news of a limited edition Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4 bundle coming out on the same day as the game, it might be a good time to upgrade. For more Black Ops 3 news stay locked on to Gamespresso.com
