The game currently supports Oculus Rift as well, so whatever your preference of VR system, you can play. This support will of course only be for the PC edition. Creative Director, Jonny Watts, said that they have been “working closely” with Valve to add this support and is optimistic about the immersion it creates.

“We’re thrilled to announce SteamVR support as part of the ongoing expansion of Elite: Dangerous. Back in December 2013, we were among the first to support virtual reality with a AAA game, and for me, exploring, trading, and fighting throughout Elite: Dangerous’ 1:1 scale Milky Way remains an unequaled virtual reality experience.”

Along with this announcement, Frontier is dropping the price of the game on PC from $45 to $27 on Steam until Monday, September 28. The game is available now through the Xbox One Game Preview system and will release publicly on October 6. No launch date has been given for PlayStation 4, but the version is on its way.
