Reports claim that Julien Merceron, Konami’s worldwide technology director and the one overseeing the creation of the Fox Engine, has left the company.
Merceron joined Konami in late 2013 after a four year span at Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix.
His time at Konami saw the creation and development of the Fox Engine, which recent titles run on including Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and PES 2016.
Why Merceron has left the company is still not clear, though it’s not uncommon for employees to leave companies after big projects have been shipped.
In May of this year Konami president, Hideki Haykawa, stated the company would focus heavily on mobile games as they went forward.
“Our main platforms will be mobiles,” he said. “Gaming has spread to a number of platforms, but at the end of the day, the platform that is always closest to us, is mobile. Mobile is where the future of gaming lies.”
We don’t know how Merceron’s departure will affect the company, but this isn’t the only big figure Konami have lost recently.
