Mass Effect series lead writer Drew Karpyshyn has found his way back to Bioware.
Karpyshyn previously contributed to writing for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Knights of Old Republic. He left the studio in February 2012 to focus on writing novels.
Detailed in a blog post, Karpyshyn revealed that his return comes after the final book in his trilogy was completed.
“Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team,” he writes. “The thing I missed most about BioWare was the amazing people I got to work with, and luckily for me many of them are still there! I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and – at least for now – that’s what I’m focusing on again.”
Let the speculation begin on whether Karpyshyn will be working on Mass Effect Andromeda, which was officially revealed at EA’s press conference during E3 2015. Details about the game are slim, but a release date is planned for holiday 2016 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
