Despite numerous instances in which a sequel to The Last of Us seem to have been confirmed, Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida claims nothing about the title is official at this time.
Yoshida claimed in a recent interview with Eurogamer that while brainstorming may be going on for the title, it is yet to be a confirmed title in the works by developer Naughty Dog.
“We haven’t confirmed The Last of Us 2,” Yoshida told Eurogamer. “But ever since the launch of the first game, people like [The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann] are talking about some ideas for a potential sequel, some experiments that they want to do. It’s just talks around development.”
While there may be no official confirmation for a sequel to the acclaimed 2013 PS3 title, Yoshida expressed his shared excitement at the possibility of another game in the series.
“Like many people, we wish to see what it’s going to be like, how the story’s going to develop, what life these characters have after what happened in The Last of Us,” Yoshida said.
While it had seemed The Last of Us 2 had been accidentally revealed by Naughty Dog themselves, they revealed last week that a prototype is in place for the game, though their focus remains on the upcoming Uncharted 4.
