Xbox One boss, Phil Spencer, has recently told IGN, in an interview, that he fully expects a Playstation 4 price drop in the United States. This comes after news of a confirmed Playstation 4 price cut in Japan. Spencer is fully anticipating the drop in price and does not feel threatened by it. He is confident in Microsoft’s plans for the holiday season.
“I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price,” Spencer told IGN. “When I think about the playbook they’ve used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we’ll see a price drop from them coming.”
If Sony does decide to drop the price of the Playstation 4 it would be the first price drop for the console since release. The Playstation 4 has had a $400 price tag since release in 2013. The Xbox One, on the other hand, debuted at $500 (with a Kinect camera), but later dropped to $400 and then again to $350 without a Kinect camera.
The next big announcement event for Sony will be the Paris Game Show in October. This could be the place that they announce the price drop. Only time will tell. Stay tuned to Gamespresso for any updates.
