Sean Murray, who is a a co-founder of Hello Games which is developing No Man’s Sky – the space game with literally trillions of planets to explore – went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Friday. He played some of No Man’s Sky on the PS4, talking to Colbert about the game’s massive size and features.
Colbert tries to get a release date out of Murray, but the dev doesn’t reveal anything about when the game will be ready to launch. It is described as ‘one of the most anticipated video games that have come out in years’ and although Colbert jokes about the concern of exploring all those planets, with the fact that it must inevitably become a boring repeat, Murray takes it in his stride.
The developers at Hello Games literally created a universe that could rival our own, with a ecosystem that evolves itself. Everything generates as you load in, via a computer based algorithm, so most of what you see is entirely new ecology, with its own weather systems and environments. One of the coolest features that No Man’s Sky is that if you encounter a creature on a planet first, you get to name it. The host now has a solar system and several creatures named after him inside the game.
No Man’s Sky is due to be launched on PC and PS4, with no release date confirmed yet. Needless to say, the anticipation for this game is felt across the gaming community. Games like No Man’s Sky are getting to be on an incredibly realistic scale – I can’t wait to play it.
