A spiritual successor to Burnout has been teased at by two founding members of Criterion games.
Three Fields Entertainment, a studio founded by Criterion founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, sent out three tweets this week teasing at the potential successor.
“Two things. Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game,” the first tweet reads.
“What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And crashing. Lots and lots of crashing,” the second tweet added, potentially referring to the wrecks and smashes that Burnout is famous for.
It’s unclear which of the Burnout games they may be teasing at this point.
The final tweet reads. “Spiritual successor to which one though??? The second, the third, or the fourth one??”
All this teasing can get fans of the series riled up, hoping for a sequel to their favourite title.
Criterion is still around and is still making games, though the studio recently shot down the idea of a Burnout HD collection.
