When Sony first unveiled Media Molecule’s next project for the PS4, there was a bit of confusion. Dreams looked really nice and was advertised as another game with creative possibilities, something we’d expect from the people behind LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway, but with almost no gameplay shown it was difficult to see what new ground, if any, the game was going to break.
Well we got a bit more info from the developer during Paris Games Week. According to the developer, Dreams seems to be a puzzle game. You create your own imp, which interact with objects in an environment, communicate with other players’ imps, and can even possess other characters, vehicles and inanimate objects. This was shown off at a demo on the show floor where Media Molecule manipulated various objects in order to unlock doors to gain access to more objects to progress to the next puzzle. The doors these imps open can also lead to other dreams, which Media Molecule touted will be different each time you open a door.
While this snippet of gameplay is a decent concept it seems the developer already has plans on a beta. The game is still in an early alpha state at time of writing, they’re planning on dropping a beta test sometime in 2016. This timeframe obviously isn’t set in stone, a lot of stuff can happen inbetween now and then, but at least now we have a better idea of what this curious experience is about.
