Publisher Bethesda Softworks announced yesterday that the multiplayer closed alpha test for Doom will start Friday, October 23 across three platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The alpha testing period will begin at 12:01 EDT Friday morning and will conclude Sunday, October 25 at 11:59 EDT.
The alpha multiplayer trial, according to publisher Bethesda Softworks, primarily serves as the first step in “series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world consumer environment.” With this being the case, players will enjoy a fairly conservative amount of gameplay options within the alpha multiplayer coming next week. Those who were able to sign up for the alpha test will be able to play one map, Heatwave, in one mode, 6v6 team deathmatch, with access to a handful of weapons and personal equipment as listed below:
Weapons
- Vortex Rifle
- Super Shotgun
- Repeater
- Rocket Launcher
- Static Cannon
- Plasma Rifle
Personal Equipment
- Personal Teleporter
- Frag Grenade
Players will also have the opportunity to customize their own classes or utilize pre-determined class set-ups during the brief multiplayer focused weekend. Check out this video for a preview of Doom’s multiplayer mayhem.
For those who are unable to play the alpha and wish to access the later multiplayer beta, check your pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The Old Blood in order to find and use the redemption code that will grant access to the beta. With the alpha near under way and the beta soon to follow thereafter, Doom fans will get a nice helping of the long awaited title before it hits store (or digital) shelves sometime in 2016.
