Microsoft announced that gamers who pre-ordered the Halo 5 Digital Edition before September 21st and are NOT using the Instant On power mode on the console may have the wrong file downloaded to their Xbox One.
The consoles affected have the wrong “stub file,” or placeholder file, downloaded to their hard drive. Gamers who have the wrong file will be required to delete it and then reinstall the game.
Gamers who pre-ordered the Halo 5 Digital Edition after September 21st should be able to automatically download the updates.
To check and see if the correct file is downloaded:
- Go to My games & apps
- Sort your game collection by selecting Installed à Sort by size
- If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is greater than 40 GB, you’ve got the correct version, and you’re ready to download the necessary updates when they become available.
- If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is less than 40 GB, you’ve got an incorrect stub file, and will need to delete that version and reinstall the game.
Microsoft detailed more info about reinstalling games on the Xbox One here.
Microsoft also said that it should affect “a small number of players,” but it’s worth a double check as there’s nothing worse than sitting down to play a game on the first day of release only to have to wait for a massive file to download.
Halo 5 launches October 27th on Xbox One.
